DR SHAAHEEN BISMILLA

After matriculating from Potchefstroom Boys High in 2002, Dr Shaaheen Bismilla completed his medical degree at the University of Pretoria in 2008. As an intern, his rotations at Kalafong Hospital in Pretoria included internal medicine, obstetrics & gynaecology, surgery, paediatrics, anaesthetics, orthopaedics, psychiatry and family medicine. After completing his internship, he continued his community service year at this same hospital. During his community service year in 2011, he completed his primary examination through the Fellowship of the College of Surgeons of South Africa (FCS SA) for which he was awarded the prestigious Trubshaw Medal.

In 2012, while Dr Bismilla worked as the Medical Officer in Orthopaedic Surgery at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Hospital, he worked in the ICU and Trauma wards under the guidance of Professor G. Richards for 6 months. As he yearned to expand his skill set, he completed the Advanced Trauma Life Support training program in 2012. After completing a Basic Trauma course through the AO Foundation in 2013, Dr Bismilla was accepted as a Registrar at the University of the Witwatersrand in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. As a registrar at Wits University, Dr Bismilla rotated through Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital and Helen Josephs Hospital..

In Oct 2016 he received his FC Orth (SA) degree in Orthopaedic Surgery from the Fellowship of the College of Orthopaedic Surgeons of South Africa. After obtaining his MMED degree in Orthopaedic Surgery in 2017, Dr Bismilla spent one year at the Netcare Rosebank Hospital for his Fellowship in knees with Dr Glen Vardi. Since then he has been committed to providing the best possible care to his patients, and to practising medicine with the utmost professionalism, empathy and integrity as a specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Life Springs Parkland Hospital. While he performs arthroplasty, trauma and general orthopaedic surgery, he has a particular interest in knees and sports injuries performing arthroscopic knee surgery, total and partial knee replacements.
