What are Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP) injections?

PRP injections contain red cells, white cells, and platelets of blood, which are effective in clotting blood, growth and healing of injuries. By taking a patient's blood and separating the blood cells with a process called centrifugation, Platelet-rich Plasma can be extracted and injected straight into the injured area.

What are PRP injections used for?

Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP) injections are used for the treatment of various musculoskeletal conditions as it can speed up the recovery process. It can be used for the treatment of some types of arthritis, chronic tendon injuries, acute ligament and muscle injuries including rotator cuff tears, osteoarthritis of the knee, ulnar collateral ligament tears, lateral epicondylitis, hamstring injuries, and Achilles tendinopathy. PRP injections can also be used during surgery to help tissues heal. Dr Bismilla may suggest PRP injections as treatment depending on your specific case.
